Biography

Alice Plunkett is a dynamic and accomplished figure in equestrian sport, broadcasting, and business, combining a passion for horse welfare, women in sport, and country pursuits with a career that spans competitive riding, media, and charitable work.

Alice is the only woman to have ridden at both the iconic Badminton Horse Trials and over the Grand National course at Aintree. A former eventer and National Hunt jockey, she represented Great Britain at the Young Rider European Eventing Championships, successfully competed at Badminton, and achieved notable victories on the flat, over hurdles, and fences. At just 19, Alice made her mark on the Grand National course, finishing 14th in the Fox Hunters’ Chase aboard Bold King’s Hussar, a horse bred by her grandfather.

Since retiring from competitive riding in 2000, Alice has established herself as a trusted presenter and commentator. For over two decades, she has fronted National Hunt Racing coverage for ITV Racing and, previously, Channel 4 Racing, alongside contributing to Eurosport, Sky Sports, Horse & Country, and BBC Radio 5 Live as their equestrian correspondent. She also hosted the popular equestrian series Horse Tails on Animal Planet.

Alice is deeply committed to charitable work, actively supporting numerous causes related to equestrianism, horse welfare, and education. She serves on the board of the Pitt Rivers Museum, where her expertise and passion for storytelling contribute to its mission of cultural preservation and education. Alice is also a sought-after speaker, frequently delivering talks at academic institutions and industry events.

Alice and her husband, renowned event rider William Fox-Pitt, share a love for the countryside and lead busy family lives with their four children—Oliver, Thomas, Chloe, and Emily. Together, they remain deeply embedded in the equestrian community while balancing professional pursuits and philanthropic endeavours.

Whether in the saddle, the boardroom, or behind the microphone, Alice brings energy, expertise, and a forward-thinking perspective to all she does, inspiring others to follow their passions and embrace opportunities to make a difference.
